7月17日、ケビン先生の4年ゼミとイースタン・ワシントン大学（EWU）の学生との間で実施されたCOILプログラムに参加した、EWU学生のカーソン・ニューウェルさんが、武庫川女子大学の学生たちを訪問しました。

COILプログラムでは、日本とアメリカの大学生がオンラインで異文化グループディスカッションを行い、互いの文化について学び合いました。カーソンさんの来訪時には、学生たちが再び自分たちの学びを振り返るとともに、卒業論文のテーマについてアメリカ人の視点から意見をもらうなど、研究内容について意見交換を行いました。また、日本とアメリカの大学生活について語り合い、日本滞在中に訪れてほしい場所を紹介する場面もありました。

ケビン先生のゼミでは、国際的な教育実践や異文化社会問題について学び、それらを日本の視点と比較することで異文化理解力の向上を目指しています。

On July 17th, Carson Newell, a student from Eastern Washington university, who took part in the COIL program between Kevin sensei’s seminar students and students at Eastern Washington University, came to visit MWU students in person.

The COIL program allowed for Japanese and American University students to learn about each other’s cultures through intercultural group discussions. During Carson’s visit, students were able to talk again about what they studied and discuss their research topics with him to get an American perspective on their graduation theses. Students also talked about university life in Japan and in the U.S., and introduced Carson to places he should visit while here in Japan.

In Kevin sensei’s seminar, students learn about international educational practice and intercultural social issues and compare them to Japanese perspectives to promote intercultural competence.
